In January 2008 the Friends of the Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge began their project of a handicapped-accessible walking trail on the railroad track to Piper No.2 mine. The trail was completed in May 2008 after 502 hours from our members, U S Fish & Wildlife Service employees and volunteers.
The trail is located 1 mile East of River Trace Road – this road will take you to the river. The entrance to the trail and the parking lot will be on your right. The trail is shown on the map below in green.
The trail is one mile in length – one way in and the same way out – there are benches placed in several areas along the trail.
